Every year \u200e\u200eon the third Thursday in May, Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine from more than 100 countries wear \u200e\u200evyshyvanka in celebration of this heritage. This year The World Vyshyvanka Day is celebrated on 18th May. \u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea of celebrating this day originated in 2006 at Chernivtsi National University by its student Lesia \u200e\u200eVoroniuk, and gradually became international as The World Vyshyvanka Day.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In conditions of war, the second year in a row vyshyvankas \u200eare being worn by the Ukrainian soldiers on the \u200e\u200efront lines. The World Vyshyvanka Day is symbolic and \u200eUkrainians, wearing vyshyvankas, \u200edeclare that \u200e\u200eUkrainians &#8211; brave citizens of the independent \u200estate, fighting for their freedom.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Embroidery is not only a part of national Ukrainian clothes, it is one of the most recognizable elements of \u200e\u200eUkrainian heritage, a symbol of freedom and love for Ukraine. Each\u200e region of Ukraine has own traditions of \u200e\u200eembroidery, \u200esymbolic ornament elements. Ukrainian traditional embroidery has more than 300 stitches \u200e\u200eand 20 techniques. \u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vyshyvanka is popular not only on the territory of Ukraine. For many years, embroidered patterns have \u200e\u200econquered even world catwalks. In 2015, vyshyvanka was recognized as the main \u200etrend of the year \u200eaccording to the American Vogue magazine. In 2016, The New York Times also gave this \u200estatus to the \u200eUkrainian national dress. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, when the interest in \u200eUkraine and its \u200eculture received a new impetus, Ukrainian vyshyvanka again became a trend in the world \u200efashion industry.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, politicians and \u200estars from all over the world wear vyshyvanka. Halyna Shunevych, Ukrainian \u200e\u200edesigner from Lviv region, creates exclusive embroidery clothing for world leaders. Exclusive \u200evyshyvankas \u200e\u200eare already in the wardrobe of Boris Johnson, the presidents of Poland, Lithuania, \u200eLatvia and Estonia. In \u200e\u200eMarch 2023, vyshyvanka was presented to Mr. Dato&#8217; Seri \u200eAnwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u200e&#8221;Today, vyshyvanka is not only a symbol of Ukraine. This is a symbol of our \u200efreedom and identity. Wearing \u200e\u200evyshyvanka, we show our unity, bravery and \u200ebeauty of the Ukrainian soul.
